Extensive provider network

LaborCare delivers the largest PPO network in Minnesota and one of the largest in the region. The LaborCare network includes:

  • 19,009 specialists
  • 274 hospitals

Optional ancillary network

The network below may be purchased to meet the needs of a specific group.

  • National network -- Access to one of the nation's largest networks for groups with employees outside the SelectCare service area.

Deep discounts

We negotiate highly competitive discounts for you and protect your fund from overcharges. Some networks pay providers a set fee, even if it’s greater than the billed charges. That can result in you paying more than you should. With LaborCare, you pay whichever is less expensive — the set fee or the billed charges.

Optional services and programs for flexibility

With LaborCare, you get the flexibility to pay for only what you need. Choose from a generous menu of solutions that will help you build a workforce that is healthier, more productive and less costly to insure.

Health Management Options

Care Management

Timely information is critical to ensuring that members receive appropriate and effective care when they are hospitalized. At your request, we can deliver inpatient notification reports and medical necessity reviews. You have final authority to accept or reject recommendations to determine the final benefit granted. You may also opt for nurse case management for members with catastrophic illness. Nurses help members by coordinating benefits and care throughout a hospital stay and post-discharge. This helps maximize quality of care and promote cost-effective use of health care.

Health Club Reimbursement

With our Fit ChoicesSM by Medica program, eligible members who exercise at a participating health club location eight or more days in a month are reimbursed $20 off their monthly membership fee. In a recent study, people who began a regular program of exercise and worked out at least eight times a month had a monthly average of 33.6% lower medical costs than those in a control group.

Health Coaching

From the healthy to the not-so-healthy, all Medica members benefit from varying degrees of support. We give healthier members tools to help them stay healthy while those at risk or already very sick receive highly personal, one-on-one support. A recent analysis showed that the most expensive 5% of members accounted for more than 50% of health care expenses. Our new health coaching program focuses on improving results for these members who have chronic disease and multiple health conditions.
